2019 Running Schedule

Feb - Mesa Phoenix Marathon (AZ): 2:37:45. Lingering flu didn't help, but I still got a PR.

April - Bonneville Shoreline Trail Marathon (UT). Mostly just going to be a training run. Finally got myself into the sub-4 club last year, so I'll just have fun with it this year.

May - Stillwater Half Marathon (MN). Goal race for Spring. Looking for ~1:12.

October- Chicago Marathon (IL). We'll see where I'm at in Fall, but probably will be looking for low 2:30s.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Stay healthy, make improvements, maximize my potential.

Personal:

I am a bioengineering PhD currently working as a post-doctoral research fellow in the Department of Neurology at the University of Utah, where I design and improve neurosurgical approaches for treating movement disorders.

Summer 2018 update: I'm lazy about copying over from Strava, so find me over there for day-to-day runs until I eventually get around to copying everything over here.

From new place (Eaglewood) over to Legacy Parkway trail, up to Pages exit, up to 650 North (overshot Orchard since it's just 400N in that area), through the neighborhood, winding up to 800 N, down 500 South to Orchard, and back home.  Did the last 2 miles (1% downhill grade, with some roll) at 6:10 pace.  90 degrees when I started, 80 when I finished, but brought a bottle and was fine with the heat.  Aerobically, the fast miles felt very comfortable, but I need to get my legs totally back under me if I'm going to run fast at St George.  Fortunately, my legs tend to come back pretty quickly, so I think I should be able to run well there still.

1 easy, then 13 fast, TM.  First 12.5 at 6:00 pace, then the last .5 at 5:30.  Harder than I wanted it to feel near the end, as my legs still haven't really come around for longer efforts.  I feel really fast when I'm fresh still, but my strength just isn't where I need it yet.

My place to Legacy Trail, up 8.2 more miles up the trail, which eventually became the Denver and Rio Grand Western Rail Trail, following that to just shy of the Centerville/Farmington line, and then back almost exactly the same way, but slightly more direct after exiting Legacy.  Didn't bring water, which was incredibly stupid, and it was surprisingly hot and sticky for running after sunset, so I got quite dehydrated, as I was only able to get a quick drink of water from a fountain twice over this entire distance.  My legs were pretty beat by the end, despite a very easy pace (7:52 AP), and I suspect the dehydration had something to do with it.  That, and, you know, not having done anything longer than 16 miles in like a month.  Ugh.  I've got a lot to do in the next couple weeks...
