2019 Running Schedule

Feb - Mesa Phoenix Marathon (AZ): 2:37:45. Lingering flu didn't help, but I still got a PR.

April - Bonneville Shoreline Trail Marathon (UT). Mostly just going to be a training run. Finally got myself into the sub-4 club last year, so I'll just have fun with it this year.

May - Stillwater Half Marathon (MN). Goal race for Spring. Looking for ~1:12.

October- Chicago Marathon (IL). We'll see where I'm at in Fall, but probably will be looking for low 2:30s.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Stay healthy, make improvements, maximize my potential.

Longest run in awhile and leg didn't hurt at all! My place up Orchard to 2600 to 89 and back, with Holly. Didn't wear a watch, but checked the clock before and after. Kept it nice and easy, 41 minutes for 5.0.

Out and back on Orchard with Holly, pretty late (10:30). Leg felt vaguely funny, but my whole hip assembly felt a little off balance, so it's probably just the legs were just a bit off balance. I guess I'll see how it feels tomorrow. I hope I can start getting some longer mileage soon!

8.5 with Fritz, JP, and Dan. About 500' of total gain on the Wasatch out and back at 7:01 AP. Felt harder than it should've, but that was expected with my complete and total lack of any semblance of fitness. Then, played 40 holes of disc golf at Creekside and jogged between all of my shots for another 2 miles. Finally, I skied for a few hours. Active day, but leg was 100% fine other than a very minor twinge about 2 miles into the run. I'm beginning to become confident that it is actually healed and the only things I feel in it are just related to scar tissue bugging me.

Sounds like a busy day. Is there such thing as speed disc golf? Maybe you could go pro.

From CollinAnderson on Mon, Jan 12, 2015 at 22:28:09 from 216.190.238.162

Haha yeah, would be fun. I kind of play with that in mind sometimes, but it's only really possible at odd hours when the courses aren't crowded. Fortunately, most people that play disc golf are the same type of people that sleep in late, so if I play in mornings, the courses are totally empty.

I haven't really been running lately, which sucks, but I've been struggling to find the time. Had time today, but I'm in such bad shape that going out for even a 10 miler seems unpleasant. Did 6, out and back, on Orchard, at about 7:00 pace on the dot. I'm going to try to make an effort to start running at lunch, as that's probably about the only time I can over the next month, unless I'm getting up at 5:00 or 5:30, and I'm never able to get to bed early enough to make that happen. For the mean time, I'm getting rid of any deulsions of racing any time soon. I'll just get in some miles first.

Thanks! It's about time I get serious if I want to do better than 2nd place at the BOSHO Marathon this year. Since I'm almost never home before 9 or 9:30, I'll just have to start dragging myself out of bed early. How are things in Atlanta?

My leg has been sucky for a few weeks and hurt a lot for a couple weeks after that last run. First run in 4 weeks. Running just hasn't been a priority lately. I'm getting married in 4 months and need to bust my butt in the lab to finish up my PhD in the mean time. I've been working very long hours, but it's paying off. I wish I had the time to train, but right now, I just don't. Fortunately, the hardest paper of my dissertation has been completed and submitted for publication as of this week, so I'd like to think that things will be a little easier at this point, but I kind of doubt that that's really true. Oh well. I have plenty of time in the future.

I've done some very minimal running, but haven't thought to post it. In any case, I just picked up 2 new pairs of shoes, so I figured I'd start keeping track. I won't have time to do any serious training until Fall, but it's all right. First 3 at 7:xx pace, last at 5:55 pace.

Finally logging mileage again.

Ran up the trail immediately north of Holbrook Canyon in Bountiful. I still have no idea what this is called. I used to think it was the Sessions Mountains ridge, but apparently that's the ridge immediately south of Holbrook Canyon. Probably more like 8.5, but got a little lost and did some extra off-trail mileage. The top of this trail is suuuuuuper rugged (hadn't been up this in a few years and forgot how bad the terrain was) and the Skechers were a bad choice.

Was supposed to run with Josh, but screwed up. Was TAing a lab in MEB and just enough time to get to SMBB, grab my running clothes, change, and meet him by the trax. I forgot that my shoes were in my car and didn't realize until I was grabbing my running clothes and about to change. Of course, my car keys were still in MEB, so I had to sprint back to lab, grab them, sprint to my car (in the wrong direction), and sprint back past SMBB and up to trax. By the time I got there, I was 10-15 minutes late and he was already gone. Sorry Josh. Anyway, I did a kind of weird route that I've managed to remember every twist and turn of, and have mapped out. SMBB to MEB to car to trax to JCC, up 3 different trails to BOSHO (screwed this up), to Red Butte, up Mt Van Cott, along a few paths on the ridge looking for the best possible view (i haven't been up this peak in ages), back down the front, back through JCC, and back. 7.1 miles with 1700' gain, most of it coming in the very steep climb up the peak.

Main route from home out to the Gateway Trail connection on Stillwater Road and back, 6.8 miles. I love, love, love the feel of the Adidas on the bottom of my feet (larger heel-toe drop seems nice when I'm fat and slow), but the mesh on the top is annoying and gave me a small blister on top of my right middle toe, which I remember happening when they were brand new. Once again, I didn't wear a watch, mostly just to encourage a slow, leisurely pace. I have no business running fast anytime soon.

Also, did a running speedplay of the Lakewood Hills disc golf course. 18 holes, 6280 of actual course distance, and quite a bit of connecting distance with hills, extra distance for bad shots etc, so 2 full miles of running. Finished the round in sub-40 minutes at 2 over par, which is good for me on this course in crazy iced over conditions, which cut the footwork out of most of my drives and dropped my distance ability by a solid 100 feet.
