2019 Running Schedule

Feb - Mesa Phoenix Marathon (AZ): 2:37:45. Lingering flu didn't help, but I still got a PR.

April - Bonneville Shoreline Trail Marathon (UT). Mostly just going to be a training run. Finally got myself into the sub-4 club last year, so I'll just have fun with it this year.

May - Stillwater Half Marathon (MN). Goal race for Spring. Looking for ~1:12.

October- Chicago Marathon (IL). We'll see where I'm at in Fall, but probably will be looking for low 2:30s.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Stay healthy, make improvements, maximize my potential.

Summer 2018 update: I'm lazy about copying over from Strava, so find me over there for day-to-day runs until I eventually get around to copying everything over here.

I've turned over a new leaf.  Very motivated and very ready to train.  Of course, I'm also being smart.  Rather than go bust out a 20 miler out of frustration, I did a 3.5 mile hike and then ran a very slow 4.5 miles.  My legs weren't sore, but my body was a bit tired, so I took it really easy and ran just shy of 9:00 pace.  My place to 5th East/South Temple to 9th South to State to my place.  At this point, barring any setbacks, I will not have any weeks under 70 miles until I taper for St George except for the week I climb Kilimanjaro, when training typically won't be possible.  I want to take my running to the next level, so it's about time that I do it.

My place to 5th East to 24th South to 4th East, and back.  The Kinvaras are completely falling apart after 338.5 miles, which is a huge bummer.

11.4, 7:59 AP.  My place to 9th East/South Temple to 27th South (stopped at Fairmont to use the bathroom, which was nasty) to 13th East to Laird to 11th East to 8th South to 9th East to South Temple to home.  Oh, and found $5.25 on my run.

10 miles easy (8:24 AP), starting right after sundown.  First 6.5 with Holly.  To Liberty, 2 laps on the mulch, and back.  Would've done more, but Holly wasn't liking the heat (still in the 80s) and wouldn't drink at Liberty Park, for whatever reason, so I just came back early and then did another 3.5 (up 4th to Virginia to South Temple, and back) by myself.  My Orange Kinvara 4s are, for all intents and purposes, destroyed after 338.5 miles, and I don't want to do all of my running in 5.whatever ounce A6 racing flats that already have 326.6 miles on them, so I ordered some Skechers GoRun 2s for $49.  Let's hope I like them.  If not, I'll probably try a pair of the lastest Fastwitch.  I must say that my body is reacting to finally upping the mileage (55.5 miles in the last 5 days) with a bit of fatigue, so I'll be happy to run virtually everything at 8:00+ minute pace for the next week or two until I'm feeling strong again.

1.8 miles to see the finish of Des News 10k at 6:15 pace, then some laps while waiting around for finishers of later races: 2 miles with Matt Poulsen, then more by myself, then back home.  I felt kind of terrible in the last mile in that heat.  I have no idea how people toughed it out in the full marathon.  Truly inspirational.  Fritz and Allie looked like they gave it absolutely 100% today and it was really impressive.

11 miles on the treadmill.  First 10.5 at ~7:20 average, then picked up the last .5 at 5:10 pace just for fun.

18.1 @ 7:33 AP.  Was intended to be 16.mid-high, but I mismapped the run on mapmyrun before I started, got off JRP at a later intersection than what I had mapped, and ended up with an extra 1.5-ish.  My place to South Temple to the JRP entrance on 2nd South by that old mansion, to 39th South to 5th East, and back.  It was hot and I sweat out a lot of salt, so I had a bit of a headache by the end, but I was going pretty easy, so I didn't have to slow it down.  Can't wait for winter again so I don't have to worry about water on long runs...

This was my biggest mileage week since February.  Looking back at the 8 days, I've suddenly jumped to 94.6 miles since Saturday, so that's pretty awesome.  My legs are already getting the hang of it, so I'm happy about that.
