2019 Running Schedule

Feb - Mesa Phoenix Marathon (AZ): 2:37:45. Lingering flu didn't help, but I still got a PR.

April - Bonneville Shoreline Trail Marathon (UT). Mostly just going to be a training run. Finally got myself into the sub-4 club last year, so I'll just have fun with it this year.

May - Stillwater Half Marathon (MN). Goal race for Spring. Looking for ~1:12.

October- Chicago Marathon (IL). We'll see where I'm at in Fall, but probably will be looking for low 2:30s.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Stay healthy, make improvements, maximize my potential.

Personal:

I am a bioengineering PhD currently working as a post-doctoral research fellow in the Department of Neurology at the University of Utah, where I design and improve neurosurgical approaches for treating movement disorders.

Summer 2018 update: I'm lazy about copying over from Strava, so find me over there for day-to-day runs until I eventually get around to copying everything over here.

Giving myself a B+ for this, but it was enough for a pr. I'll eventually catch up and copy stuff over here.

Thanks! It's been a long time coming that I got back in shape. I was repeatedly injured in 2015/2016 while simultaneously focusing more on spending time with my wife in the spare time from finishing my doctorate and starting a postdoc. I got back into decent shape last year, but I built up way too quickly and wound up with a stress fracture in the first week of September. So, I had from November until the end of December to ramp mileage carefully and get ready for real training without injuring myself again. January into mid Feb was a focus on 70-80mpw running with very high quality workouts that I always rested well for. In the end, 7 weeks of really good training was enough to get me back in shape and net me a 2.5 minute PR, even with a slightly less-than-perfect race strategy. I now have a nice fitness base and decent aerobic base to build from, and I'm extremely motivated to work both hard and smart this year. I'll take all of that into training for an upcoming half in my hometown in May and the Berlin Marathon in September, and I'm looking for substantial PR improvements in both.
